SECRETARY UNIT S1


Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The primary function of this job it to act as a greeter and facilitator for patients and visitors within the Family Birthing Center. This role includes monitoring visitors and directing patients to appropriate areas, i.e. Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby or Nursery.

Education/Formal Training :

High School Diploma.

Ability to communicate with patients, visitors, and staff.

Ability to be sensitive to and act upon individual family needs.

Completes orientation according to hospital and unit specific policy/procedures

Essential Job Functions

Ensure that visitors are directed to the appropriate areas of the Family Birthing Center

Obtain patient list at beginning of shift and updates throughout day depending on patient census.

Notifies Labor & Delivery of patient's arriving from physician offices.

Straighten front lobby, maintaining neat and organized furniture and publication material.

Input all names and demographics of patients that the OB/GYN practices send to unit on a monthly basis.

Compile all necessary forms for pre-registration packets and prepare for mailing.

Address and deliver pre-registration packets to the mail room.

Record all completed pre-admission packets received into database.

Maintain and order all forms necessary for pre-registration packets.

Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with patient health information (PHI) and HIPA regulations.

Maintain awareness of safety and security for maternity service patients.

Other Job Functions

Ensure that classroom is neat and properly set up (by housekeeping) for classes.

Check mailroom on a daily basis and deliver mail to appropriate units.

Take outgoing mail to mailroom.

Assist in various clerical projects for Family Birthing Center units.

Verify department staffing schedules with department secretary.

Photocopying as needed/requested.

Additional related maternity service assignments as delegated by the Maternity Consultant or Director of Maternity Services.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
